Interview with Ms Galaxy Surrey – Alexis Ellis

Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey it’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.

Can you introduce yourself ?

I’m Ms Galaxy Surrey , Alexis Ellis, Age 40 I was the first transgender in Miss BC Pageant and I was 1 of 2 transgender contestants in Galaxy Canada.

I’m a woman who has grown through many obstacles in my life to become a public speaker, published author, and community server. I have overcome the challenges associated with being born with Gender Dysphoria, Cerebral Palsy, and a speech impediment to become my truest self. My stories, ‘Becoming the True Me’ and ‘Butterfly Emerges’ are published in the Sacred Hearts Rising books. In my quest for equality, I was recognized and spoke at the annual Surrey Pride event. Through my podcast and platform, Butterflies Blooming, I empower listeners to embrace their differences as strengths and thats what’s make them beautiful.

What made you enter pageants ?

I went in pageants to build my confidence, self esteem and help others to achieve anything they put there mind to.

Can you tell us about your pageant journey so far ?

Miss Langley Orthodintics ( Miss BC 2019) and All Canadian Pagnet Pacific Royal Highness Miss 2019 Then Ms Galaxy Canada Finalist and Regal World Finalist.

What made you decide to compete in the Galaxy System ?

The Galaxy System is amazing to do and exciting. I have competed twice in row. I also know if I can win a national pageant I can move to internationals which would be an incredible opportunity.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you ?

Pageants will improve your life and you can make new friends.

What’s your pageant platform and why ?

My platform is to help and society in lgbtq . I believe if I can help with equal rights it will improve society to have equal rights to anyone. We all were born in world for reason and I believe its my task to help change society.

What’s your dream title ?

Ms Galaxy or Ms Galaxy Canada

If you were to win Ms Galaxy Canada and then Ms Galaxy what would it mean to you ?

It would mean a lot and will be one step to help society. I believe if I can help equal rights by winning Ms Galaxy Canada it will be a start to change the society we live in to believe in equal rights.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens ?

I believe in working hard and go follow your dreams. Anyone can win a pageant. I believe if we all help society in anyway we can we can improve our future.

What have you been doing in the run up to the final of Ms Galaxy Canada ?

I enjoy making appearances with my sash. I also volunteer a lot in my local community including helping homeless to different society’s.

Favourite ever appearance ?

I believe all my appearances are my favourite, since I touch peoples hearts and souls. When I meet a person like me I believe I can help them with friendly touch. I believe my best appearance so far is helping a charity in my local community by volunteering on a weekly basis in which I fill food boxes and help cook a meals.

How has the lockdown due to Covid19 affected your pageant journey ?

It’s postponed my pageant final this year but I have learnt to improve myself during this time and learn more. Telling my sponsor the final had been postponed was difficult though.

What makes a good pageant role model ?

A good pageant role model will help anyone even if they do have a disability or part of LGBT community. I courage anyone follow your dreams.

What do you like about competing in a national pageant ?

I love competing in nationals as you can show other areas what your area is like and learn more about other areas and more about other cultures.

How do you deal with pageant nerves ?

I believe in doing breathing exercises before I go on stage or into my interview and I do hypnotherapy too.

What’s your ultimate pageant goal ?

As you know I’m transgender and I’ve been in 4 pageants. My goal is win a title and show society anyone can win and truly be a role model within the pageant and non pageant community. I also have cerbral palsy and want to show people that people who do have existing health conditions can win a pageant and be a role model. Im a Canadian ambassador, Galaxy Canada Finalist as well as being part of Infinity Canada and I’m a finalist in the Regal World pageant which is been held virtually due to Covid19. Im also podcaster in my own series called Butterfly Blooming as well as being an author and speaker.
