Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey for my pageant lockdown blog. It’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.
Can you introduce yourself ?
Mrs. Galaxy Calgary 2020/21, Shiva Bahaeimoghadam
What made you enter pageants ?
I’ve always loved doing pageants, but what made meenter was coming across a post on Instagram from Mrs. Canada Globe, @Monica.Fryers on Instagram, and realizing there was a “Mrs. Division” in many pageant systems. Monica and I talked a little bit and she suggested that I give it shot and I decided to go for it.
Can you tell us about your pageant journey so far ?

This is my first time competing in pageants, and so far the journey has been very exciting and amazing. I’ve met the delegates and the reigning queens in an online orientation, and everyone is quite supportive and fun. It is truly a sisterhood and I can’t wait to meet all of them and my national director, Sindy, in person.
What made you decide to compete in the Galaxy system ?
I did my research and although Canada Galaxy Pageants has only been there for a short time, I’ve read and heard many good reviews about them. I love that inclusivity is one of its core values, which is very important for me. I’m proud to be representing a system that gives everyone equal opportunities regardless of their age, race, sexual orientation, and so on and it is up to the delegates to use this opportunity and platform to represent what they stand for and believe in.
What is the best thing that pageants have taught you ?
The best thing I learnt is constantly pushing myself out of my comfort zone and always striving to learn more and grow as a person.
What’s your pageant platform and why?
Mental health is my passion, and that’s why one of my bachelor’s degrees I’m studying for is in Psychology. I want to use my platform to bring awareness to mental wellbeing and reduce the stigma around it. I want people to know that struggles with mental health is more common than they think especially now that the pandemic has limited our social interactions, and it can directly affect our wellbeing both mentally and physically.
What’s your dream title ?
Mrs. Galaxy Canada 2021 and then Mrs. Galaxy International 2021
If you were to win Mrs. Galaxy what would it mean to you ?
For me, it would be a dream come true, something extraordinary that I cherish for as long as I live. It would give me a bigger audience to share my journey and passion with as their reigning queen. [Even talking about it gives me goosebumps..]
What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens ?
Focus on yourself and what you want to achieve in this competition rather than comparing yourself with other delegates, and I’m sure it will take you far.
What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final ?
The first step for me was to make sure I’m taking care of myself mentally and physically. So, I’ve been doing a lot of meditating and working out to stay fit mentally and physically. Also, I’ve taken one of The Fundamentals of Pageantry courses with the amazing Maria Giorlando, @thepagaentgal on Instagram, to prep for the competition, and I look forward to more classes with her.
How has the lockdown due to Covid19 affected your pageant journey ?
Well, my pageant competition got cancelled, which issad but health and safety of everyone comes first, of course. On the bright side, I get to keep my title as Mrs. Galaxy Calgary for another year and gives me more time to build my platform and prepare for the big event. The new date for the pageant is set to August 22, 2021 so, save the date!
Has your reign been extended due to COVID19?
Yes, until next year.
What makes a good pageant role model ?
I think the most important thing about being a role model is having self-awareness. There are so many people who look up to you, and you need to be best version of yourself all the time. As a pageant role model, it is also important to be a positive source of information not only about pageantry but also major current world events.
What’s your favourite pageant round ?
The evening gown because all the contestants look so gorgeous and glamorous.
How do you deal with pageant nerves ?
Staying present and not thinking about what I’m going to do next helps a lot. Also, focusing on what I’mdoing rather than comparing myself with others.
