Interview with Ms Galaxy Canada 2020- Regine Semira

Thank you so much for allowing to interview you today, it’s lovely getting to know pageant queens from across the globe.

So firstly what made you enter pageants ?

I was approached by a family friend to take part in a local Filipino charity pageant, at first I was hesitant but spoke to my mom and Godmother about it and they were very supportive.

So you hold some previous titles can you tell us what they are ?

Can you tell me about your pageant journey so far ?

I have been involved with pageants for 11 years where I have competed in a local Filipino pageant here in Toronto. I have also competed in the Philippines representing the Filipino community in Toronto and have taken part in Miss. Canada’s Top Choice pageant, Miss. Universe Canada, Miss. Earth Canada and of course the Canada Galaxy pageant.

What made you decide to compete in the Galaxy System ?

I have known the National Director of Canada Galaxy, Sindy, since 2016 and when she told me about Galaxy I was very interested but had “retired” from the pageant world. With her words of encouragement and doing some research on the Galaxy system, I could not hesitate and filled in my paperwork! It was also encouraging to have some of the students I coach compete with as well and join in their excitement.

What is the best thing that pageants have taught you ?

I have learned a lot by competing in pageants such as interview skills, presentation skills and self confidence. But one of the best things I have learned are all of the pageant life hacks such as double sided tape is your best friend and hairspray is more than just your hair!

What’s your pageant platform and why ?

Empowering the next generation is something very important to me, so working with charities surrounding children and families is my main platform. This includes Give Kids the World Village, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Oakville Ontario. I also work with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada in honour of my past grandfather and one of my close friend’s who is a Leukemia survivor.

What’s your dream title ?

Ms. Galaxy International 🙂

If you were to win Ms Galaxy International what would it mean to you ?

If I were to win the title of Ms. Galaxy International, it would be an honour and an accomplishment of a lifetime. This is something I have been working for since November 2018, and with my family and friends support throughout it all, it would be for them as well.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens ?

Never stop believing in yourself and know that you are capable of achieving more than you give yourself credit for. I first competed for the Ms. Galaxy Canada title in 2019 and was First Runner Up. It was already a great accomplishment and I was proud of myself but I knew that I could do better, so I worked even harder, removed my self doubt and came back the following year.

What have you been doing in the run up to the International final of Ms Galaxy ?

Since winning Ms. Galaxy Canada 2020, I have been volunteering as an emcee and participating in many local charity events throughout the Greater Toronto Area. I have also had the opportunity to speak in front of over 30 high school girls and conduct a self confidence workshop. With the changes brought to us this year, I have been taking part in more interviews via Skype, blogs and social media platforms. I have also raised funds for Give Kids the World Village.

What makes a good pageant role model ?

A good role model is someone who cares and believes in those around them, regardless of having a crown or not. They are someone with good morals, who is relatable, encouraging, has a contagious personality and has a positive outlook on life.

What’s your favourite pageant round ?

It’s difficult to really narrow it down to just one as every segment is different. If I had to choose, I would say fun fashion wear and evening gown as everyone has their chance of showing off their personalities and styles.

How do you deal with pageant nerves ?

The adrenaline builds up rather than becoming nervous and I become the “hype woman” backstage. Nerves usually build up during interviews and crowning, when this happens I just say a little prayer, take a deep breath and smile.
