Interview with Marcie Reid – Miss Intercontinental U.K. Finalist

Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey for my pageant lockdown blog it’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.

Can you introduce yourself ?

My name is Marcie Reid, I’m 25 (I know it’s shocking, I look about 12!). I have just secured a finalist place in Miss Intercontinental UK.

What made you enter pageants ?

I entered pageants after seeing a friend of mine compete for a number of years. Through watching her, I figured pageantry wouldn’t have a place for someone like me as I also compete in body building competitions. I then stumbled across Sarah Davies, an Olympic weightlifter, AND a pageant queen! After discovering Sarah, researching her and her many many achievements, I figured why not? Why can’t I be both strong and feminine, so I took the plunge and entered my first ever pageant!

Can you tell us about your journey so far ?

My first ever pageant was Miss Galaxy UK 2020, I definitely didn’t prep as much as I should have, I had no clue what to expect and had NEVER seen a live pageant before my own! Somehow I managed to place top 12, made the best of friends and can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life so far! I fell in love with pageantry! Galaxy sealed the deal for me, I’m never leaving pageant land now!

What made you decide to compete in The Miss Intercontinental System?

I decided to go for Miss Intercontinental for a number of reasons, firstly, I had been looking into the system for a little while now with a nice little pageant plan for the next 2 years in my head, but obviously Rona messed that up so I brought it forward! From the other contestants, to the director Lilly, to the current queens, especially Molly (answering my 3000 questions haha!) Everyone was so lovely and friendly so I took the plunge!

What the best thing that pageants have taught you ?

Pageants have taught me that the best way to be is completely yourself. Pageantry and all it includes has given me confidence in myself and my abilities and has opened up the idea that I can achieve anything I put my mind too! Pageantry breeds strong, resilient, well rounded and empowered women and I love it!

What’s your pageant platform and why ?

My pageant platform is be healthy, of mind and physically! I actually have a little project in the works to help a group of people that need it most, and I’m super excited to share however it’s not quite ready yet🤫

What’s your dream title ?

My dream title would obviously be Miss Intercontinental England/Wales😜

If you were to win what would it mean to you ?

If I were to be selected to represent my country I don’t think I could begin to explain what that would mean to me. To be trusted with the responsibility of representation and being a role model would really be a dream come true!

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant contestants ?

Get to know your fellow contestants! Go to all the different events, support the other girls! Pageants themselves are SO much fun, but the girls you’re there with make it the most amazing day! Don’t ever fall back on the misconception that pageant girls are bitchy, because I promise you now, they’re the nicest bunch of women you will ever meet, and I can guarantee you you’ll walk away from your pageant with another best friend for life🥰

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final ?

So far, not much I’m afraid! I’ve only just confirmed my place at Miss Intercontinental so now all of the homework starts! I’ve been researching the system, the queens, the title and accompanying responsibilities, it may not sound fun but I really enjoy it and it’s so important to know your pageant.

What’s your favourite ever appearance ?

My favourite ever appearance was when I was lucky enough to help host a run run for Mencap charity. The charity provide services for my brother and I was so so grateful to be able to give back! We all had an amazing day and I met the most lovely people💗

How has the lockdown due to COVID19 effected your pageant journey ?

As I previously mentioned, I had a well thought out 2 year plan for my pageants however thanks to Rona, it’s all gone out the window! Through Covid-19 causing most pageants to be pushed back/cancelled, I’ve been put in the awful position of practically losing a year due to my age. I’m 25 now and age out at 27/28 into the Ms categories! However, I’m super grateful that I’ll have the ability to compete again regardless so in the grand scheme of things, the effects aren’t too bad🤞

What makes a good pageant role model ?

I believe a good role model is a well rounded, approachable and friendly figure. A good heart, the willingness to help and the ability to support are all paramount in being a good role model in my opinion.

What’s your favourite pageant round ?

My favourite pageant round has to be the evening wear! Before pageants, I had never had the opportunity to wear an evening dress, whereas due to my body building comps I had worn a bikini on stage plenty of times. The evening wear round was something completely new to me and I love it!

How do you deal with pageant nerves ?

I’m definitely guilty of pageant nerves! All I can say, is that my friends that I had made at my pageant calmed me down, helped me with whatever my issue was and honestly, it was those girls that got me through the nerves on the day, nothing else! Forever grateful for them💜
