Interview with Lilly Strong – Miss Teen Bexley Atlantic 2020

Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey for my pageant lockdown blog. It’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.
What made you enter pageants ?
I have always been a girly girl and did dance so i was always on the stage. My mum was friends with a pageant director on facebook who recommended doing pageants and since the first one, i’ve caught the pageant bug.
Can you tell us about pageant journey so far ?
I first competed in Miss Teen Great Britain in October 2019 as Miss Junior Teen Bexley and im now doing my second.
What made you decide to compete in the Atlantic System ?
Romy, the director of Atlantic, is so incredible in the charity work that she does as an ambassador for MIND and that gave me reassurance that this system was perfect
What’s the best thing that pageants have taught you ?
The best thing pageants have taught me is that everyone has an opinion but you just have to remember who you truly are and not let any wipe your smile!
What’s your pageant platform and why?
My platform is Eating Disorders and I haven’t realised information on any of it yet but it’s very unique and different as it is personal to me in my life.
What’s your dream title ?
At the moment, my dream title is Miss Teen Atlantic 2021 but whatever happens in the future is exciting to find out!
How would it feel if you were to win Miss Teen Atlantic ?
If I were to become Miss Teen Atlantic 2021 in January then I would be incredibly grateful as I stand for all the morals of Atlantic and support everything that they mean so I elieve I would do a good job at portraying that and showing that during my reign.
What’s the best advice you can give to fellow pageant queens?
For all pageant girls, I would say keep your head up and support that crown because if you let one person knock you down then your crown will slip so stay true to yourself!
What have you been doing in the run up to the final of Miss Teen Atlantic?
Although we are unable to go outside, i’m taking part in as many online charity campaigns as I can until we can go out. I am also doing a lot of planning and coaching in order to be the best I can in January.
What’s your favourite pageant appearance so far?
My favourite appearance is when I got invited to a dementia care home and got to see how we take life for granted and are still wanting more yet the residents had so little but they were incredibly happy and everyone of them were smiling. It was also really nice to brighten their day sharing my story.
How has lockdown affected your pageant journey ?
Lockdown has only restricted appearances but I have still been able to carry on planning and prepping for the finals.
What makes a good pageant role model ?
A good pageant role model is always themselves no matter what others say and they support others and the charity acquainted with their system. Not only do they inspire people but they help others reach their dreams and give them the confidence that they seek!
What’s your favourite pageant round ?
My favourite pageant round is swimwear, I haven’t yet participated in swimwear but Iwill in January. The reason I believe this will be my favourite is because it gives you the ability to show off your confidence and be you!
How do you deal with pageant nerves?
Before I go on the pageant stage, 5-10 minutes before I just listen to aspiring mindset podcasts and focus on myself to stay calm and be myself.
