Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey for my pageant lockdown blog it’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.
Can you introduce yourself ?
I’m Katelyn, I am 20 and I’m a Miss mystic beauty finalist 2020-miss Chepstow Mystic Beauty 2020.
So what made you enter pageants?
I started pageants a few years ago when I began modelling and a photographer I met had told me about pageants and how they can help with self confidence, so I entered Miss Bristol 2016.
Can you tell us about your pageant journey so far ?
I have competed in a few different pageants Miss Bristol was my first pageant and it made me fall in love, I then entered Miss Upcoming model in 2016 where I placed first runner up, I have had the experience of doing Miss Teen Great Britain in 2016 and I have done Miss teen Mystic beauty in 2018, I took a year and a half out and I am now doing Miss Mystic Beauty 2020.
What made you decide to enter Miss Mystic Beauty 2020 ?
I entered Miss Teen Mystic Beauty 2018 and I loved it but I had a difficult year due to losing my Grandad and I received so much support from the other girls taking part, I took a year out to focus on myself, my health and getting married and decided that I would go back to this system because it is so amazing and the directors are current queens are so supportive and helpful with everything you do.
What have pageants taught you?
It has taught me that it is okay to be who you are and there’s no reason to be scared about who you are.
What’s your pageant platform and why?
My pageant platforms are chronic illnesses, in particular endometriosis as I have endometriosis and I would like to raise more awareness about that condition to women as before I was told about it, I had no idea what it was and what the symptoms were, my second platform is teenage age mental health, I suffered with mental health during the majority of my teenage years and sometimes teenagers aren’t always taken seriously but i want to help people know that it is okay to feel that way and there’s nothing to be ashamed about.
What’s your dream title ?
My dream title is Miss Mystic Beauty because I would love to represent such an amazing system.
What would it mean to you if you were crowned Miss Mystic Beauty ?
To win Miss Mystic Beauty would mean the world to me, it would show that all my hard work and dedication paid off.
What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens?
My best advice would be to be yourself always, there’s nothing wrong with being yourself because the real you is the best you.
What have you been doing in the run up to the finals of Miss Mystic Beauty?
The finals are in October and during this time I have been planning a range of events in my area for when lock down is lifted to raise money for my chosen charities, I have also been designing and making my different outfits and planning different appearances to help make awareness of my platforms.
What’s your favourite appearance so far?
My favourite appearance has to be a charity event I did a few years ago at a community centre where I ran a family fun day. Not yet, so far the finals are going ahead.
What’s makes a good role model?
A good role model is someone who others can relate to and easy to talk too.
What’s your favourite pageant round ?
I absolutely love eco wear, it’s so creative and different and I love being able to create an outfit to wear.
How do you deal with pageant nerves ?
I suffer horribly with pageant nerves but I used to be able to see my grandad in the crowd before he passed which was a great relief for me but now I have my lovely husband who travels around with me and he helps calms my nerves when I see him in the crowd.
