Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey for my lockdown pageant blog. You are my first American Pageant Queen I have interviewed so I’m excited to read all about your journey.

What made you enter pageants ?

My passion to continue making a difference around the world is what lead to me pageants. Many view pageant girls as just a beautiful face but its more than just that. It allows you to have a platform and I am an advocate against domestic violence. I knew being apart of pageants would allow me to have a voice and eventually allow me to make a difference.

Can you tell us about your pageant journey, so far ?

I have been competing in pageants for about six years now in many systems. This is actually my first title that I have won. I have placed in many but this is my first official title! It has been such a journey. I have competed for state titles, national titles, and international titles. One of my greatest accomplishments in pageantry besides winning the title of Elite Miss New York Earth, was placing second runner up at Miss Universe Guyana and winning Miss Congeniality in 2017.

What made you decide to compete in The Miss Earth USA Organization?

To be very honest I thought my pageant career was over. My age was one of my concerns because I am 27 years old which meant that for most pageants, I would be aged out. After competing for a previous pageant in January 2020 I thought that would be my last pageant until the Miss New York Earth Organization reached out to me. The Miss Earth USA organization has so much to offer and they have divisions for all ages and the fact that we get to go to nationals is amazing along with being a beauty for a cause. I decided to give this pageant a chance because I knew I had the experience of working on the Green Teamwith my children at work and also this organization truly inspired me to aim higher which is now why I am currently starting my own program called “Growing Up Green”.

What the best thing that pageants have taught you?

Pageants have taught me how to feel absolutely confident. We all come across a point in our lives where feeling confident is very difficult. It wasn’t until I entered pageants that I started to feel confident about who I am and I also learned so much about myself. I figured out who Nalicia Ramdyal is all about. I found the one word that truly described who I am, and that is DETERMINED! Pageants have truly taught me how to never give up on my dreams even if it took six years for me to realize that dreams do come true!

What’s your pageant platform and why ?

I have two platforms in pageantry which is domestic violence and my program Growing Up Green. I want to eventually have my own nonprofit organization for Domestic Violence. My plans for my nonprofit are to provide resources for adults and children experiencing domestic violence as well as working closely with local organizations that serve them. As for my program Growing Up Green, I want came to create a more sustainable environment and allow the youth to be well educated on this outside of school. I believe that our future will be changed by the youth and its very important that they are being well educated on these topics because they will be the ones to make a difference in society.

What’s your dream title ?

My dream title is to become the next Elite Miss Earth USA !

If you were to win Elite Miss Earth USA what would it mean to you ?

If I was to win this title, it would be such an honor. It will continue to show me that dreams do come true and I would feel absolutely successful. Winning this title would continue to allow me to be a beauty for a cause and this would allow me to continue expanding my program Growing Up Green on a national level with hopes of also expanding it internationally.

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens ?

The best advice I have for fellow pageant queens is to never give up and I know this is something you hear all the time in pageantry but I would have never thought after six years of competing in pageants I would be where I am today. I am living by this and I am so glad that I have such a successful story to share about my pageant journey. Another advice I have is to be yourself. Being authentic will get you so much further than you will never know! Stay true to yourself and to who you are! You are a queen and there is no other like you!

What have you been doing since you won and how are you preparing for you National Final ?

Since I won my title unfortunately, I have to do things virtually due to COVID 19 but I have been doing the best that I can. I am still educating students everyday about our environment. I am training myself physically and mentally for nationals and I am also learning so much more about myself during this time.

What’s your favourite type of appearance ?

My favorite appearances are the ones to give back to the community!

How has the lockdown due to COVID 19 effected your pageant journey ?

Due to COVID 19, the pageant had to be done virtually so I didn’t get to experience that winning moment on stage which I have always dreamt of but I am just extremely thankful that it still got to happen and even more so that I won this title. Although that occurred, it gave me more time to speak to the judges so that they knew more about who I am and what my goals were. Right now, I haven’t been able to go to appearances in person but again, I’m just so thankful for technology at the moment to do some of those appearances virtually.

What makes a good pageant role model ?

What makes a good pageant role model is someone who is able to show you they are on inside shine on the outside.

What’s your favourite pageant round ?

My favorite part of pageant competition is interview. Crazy right?! I know it can be very intimidating and it makes you feel nervous which I completely understand because I definitely get really nervous but this is the chance to show judges who you are. It’s your time to show who you are on the inside and what you’re all about. Being on stage only shows your beauty on the outside so the fact that judges are able to get that time to speak to you 1 on 1, is so important!

How do you deal with pageant nerves ?

Honestly, I just say a prayer before everything and I continuously remind myself why I am here and why I am doing this which makes me realize that I can’t let my nerves get in the way of anything. Another thing I try to do is before the show or interview I try to listen to music which keeps me calm and gives me a boost!
