Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey it’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.

Can you introduce yourself ?

I’m Bridget Croteau, Mrs. New York USA Ambassador 2020 and I am 36 years old.

What made you enter pageants ?

I didn’t start competing in pageants until five years ago, although I had wanted to when I was a teenager! I initially entered for two reasons – have a fun outlet for myself and to help raise awareness for postpartum depression and anxiety.

Can you tell us about your pageant journey so far ?

I competed in a different pageant system for four years, holding a local title, before finding the USA Ambassador system. In my previous system I placed in the “Top 10” twice and won a few awards including Woman of Achievement for doing a substantial amount of community service.

What made you decide to compete the USA Ambassador system ?

I love that the USA Ambassador system is focused on charity and giving back to the community. Being involved with community service and helping others has always been very important to me!

What the best thing that pageants have taught you ?

Pageants have taught me so many lessons! I think most importantly, pageants have taught me to be confident and believe in myself and that my voice really does matter and can help so many. Without the confidence pageantry has instilled in me, I don’t think I would have ever shared my story as publicly as I have, including writing and self-publishing my own book, “Me Again: How Postpartum Depression and Anxiety Transformed My Life.”

What’s your pageant platform and why ?

My platform is titled, “You Are Not Alone.” I had postpartum depression and anxiety after I had both of my girls, and it was the most lonely and difficult times of my life. I am fortunate that I was able to find help through therapy and a support group. One night at the support group, I was given the gift of hope. A mom was in attendance who shared herstory with us. Hearing all she overcame and that she was doing so well now, gave me hope that I wouldget better one day too. My goal is to share my experience with others to give them hope and let new moms and dads know that they are not alone.

What’s your dream title ?

I would love to hold the national title for my system – Mrs. USA Ambassador!

If you were to win the title of Mrs. USA Ambassador what would it mean to you ?

If I win the title of Mrs. USA Ambassador I would be so ecstatic! This title will help open so many doors for me and help in my mission of helping moms, dads and families, not only in New York, but the entire country!

What’s the best advice you have for fellow pageant queens ?

Believe in yourself and your abilities. You are worthy and important! Find a cause you are passionate about and get as involved with that cause as you can!

What have you been doing in the run up to your pageant final ?

I have been so busy – even on COVID-19 lockdown! I have been preparing with interview practice, shopping for wardrobe and breaking in heels! But I have also been doing a lot of community service from home – I’ve done numerous virtual walks/runs for different charities, donated to food drives and worked with media outlets to share information about postpartum depression/anxiety and my experience.

Favourite ever appearance ?

My favorite appearance is the Sounds of Silence 5k/10k Run/Walk benefiting the Postpartum Resource Center of New York. We hold this event every year, usually on Mother’s Day weekend. My whole family attends each year and we have such a great time. We had to hold it virtually this year, but I was happy we could still raise awareness and funds for such a great organization!

How has the lockdown due to Covid19 affected your pageant journey ?

COVID-19 has definitely affected my journey. Being from New York, and hit the hardest in the country, many of the events and activities I would have normally attended were canceled/postponed/made virtual.

What makes a good pageant role model ?

To me, a good role model is someone that will treat others with kindness, respect and compassion. Someone who is passionate about helping those in her community.

What’s your favourite pageant round ?

I love interview because I truly enjoy sharing my platform with the judges and having them get to know me.

How do you deal with pageant nerves ?

I take deep breaths backstage! I have a “pageant playlist” on my phone of positive, upbeat and confidence building songs that I listen to in the days leading up to the competition!
