Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey for my pageant lockdown blog it’s lovely getting to know fellow pageant queens and more about the systems that they represent.
Can you introduce yourself?
Alicia Nash, 7 years old, Mini Miss May Queen 2020.
What made you decide to enter pageants?
I enter pageants because they looked fun and I thought I would make loads of new friends. I wanted to spend time with my mummy aswell and she started doing pageants so I did too.
Can you tell us about your pageant journey so far ?
I competed in Miss Shining Light 2019 but I didn’t win. This year I was supposed to do Miss Shining Light again but because of the virus that has been put off until 2021, I hope to be doing Miss Diamond Ireland later this year. I have done a few online pageants during lockdown but I have only won my divison in Miss May Online pageant.
Why did you enter Miss Shining Light and Miss May ?
I entered Miss Shining Light first because it was to raise money for a mental health charity and in my home we support mental health always as it has affected our family. I love doing pageants and I am upset that we can’t do any for the next while because of the virus so I entered Miss May.
What have pageants taught you?
Pageants have taught me to be confident and not be scared of other people being negative to me because I have nothing to be embarrassed about.
What’s your pageant platform?
My main platform is mental health and suicude prevention because this has been a big issue in my home town of Derry and my mum has had mental health issues for a long time.
How does it feel being a Queen ?
It feels amazing because queen’s are the boss and now I think I’m the boss in my house, but my mummy says she’s still the boss haha.
What are your hobbies when you not being a Queen ?

I love my Irish Dancing (I win loads of trophies) and I do speech and drama classes aswell as learning to play the piano, but my main hobby is playing with my friends and making up new games.
Will you keep competing and if so what’s your dream title ?
Yes I love them, my dream title is Junior Miss Diamond Ireland at the minute because I get to go to England to compete.
What would it mean to you if you won Junior Miss Diamond Ireland ?
It would be so special because all my hard work has finally paid off.
What have you been doing in as part of your pageant journey?
I have been practicing my walk and poses to get them perfect for the next time I compete. I also done a lot of fundraising for lots of charities including foyle search and rescue, the samaritians and also the NHS.
Who’s your pageant role model ?
I look up to Jennifer Taylor because she isn’t afraid to be 100% herself because she has crazy hair like my mummy and she is always there to help anybody that needs help even if she isn’t feeling very good.
What’s your favourite pageant round ?

My favourite pageant round is the fashion wear because I get to be sassy on stage.
What do you friends and family think of you being a Queen ?
My family are all very proud of me. My friends that are girls all think its really good and wish they could do it too and love my crown. My friends that are boys don’t really mind they like football and stuff better.
What are you competing in at the moment ?
I’m competing in Miss Enchanted Beauty online pageant during this lockdown and one of the choosen charities is the NHS, I wants all my pageant friends to get involved as it’s good fun you have to make a costume as part of this and its raising money for something that we all need during this virus to keep everybody safe.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions about your pageant journey. I hope to see you at the Diamond Final in England. Much Love Charlotte, Ms Diamond South Yorkshire 2020.
