Women that compete in pageants get labelled a beauty queen or a pageant queen in the Media. Both titles are applicable but in the pageant community they do mean different things.

A beauty queen to me means more of a model, some one who wants to walk in catwalk shows, who wants to grace the pages of magazines and who doesn’t really do the other side of pageantry which is the community and charity work. Now don’t get me wrong many queens have walked for fashion houses and been published in magazines but a beauty queen to me is someone that only concentrates in this.

A pageant queen is a beauty queen but also so much more. A pageant queen is someone that has the ability to touch a persons life, make them smile and most importantly make a difference. This is why we have individual pageant platforms so we can use our voice to highlight causes close to our heart.

Interviewing fellow queens has shown me how diverse these platforms can be from mental health, eco, cancer awareness, bullying, the list is endless. Each one of these pageant queens uses there time to help educate people on there platform to show people that they have support and things will get better.

The ways pageant queens do this has changed during lockdown from online campaigns where you share facts about your platform along with a relevant photo to short videos, chats that are recorded with other queens, online interviews, press interviews and also TV interviews.

By spreading there message they are showing ‘beauty with a purpose’ and hopefully changing the non pageant communities opinions of pageants.

Being a pageant queen isn’t just about turning up to the final and walking on stage it’s about commitment, determination, goal setting and hard work so when you have your interview at the final with the judges you can show them why you deserve that crown.

Interviews at the final are so important as judges get to know you on a personal level and in some cases even pick there winner or top women to take the crown. Never just sit back and think that an amazing walk can get you that pageant crown and title if you want that then just should get into modelling not pageants as being a pageant queen is about having a full package.
